V Puro, Doravante, Bairrada, Portugal, 2016
(Pairing suggestion - Dexter short rib)
Winemakers Nuno Mira do O and Joao Soares found ancient vineyards in Bairrada, a region north of Lisbon. The vines are aged between 80 and 120 years old.
Made from the indigenous grapes of Baga and Tourigna Nacional. The wine is influenced by the clay and limestone soils, providing bright minerality and complexity to the wine. The wine is medium to full bodied with a great structure coming from the oak aging, imparting soft sweet spices of vanilla and clove. The core of the wine is full of plum, fig and elderberries, all tied together with a herbaceous finish of bayleaf and black pepper.
